Arbor!!
The Review!
By Darkzen
22/02/2026
After a decade of existence, wazzara unveil their fourth release - a full-length album forged from an alloy of darkness, weight and ethereal beauty, interweaving elements of Atmospheric Black Metal, Doom and Blackgaze.
Arbor is dedicated to those who do not fear tasting the untamed fruit. Its songs whisper of an ancient force buried but never broken, of voices once quieted that now rise again. We were never cut away from the tree of wisdom - we are its root, its trunk, its crown. Sapere aude. zessa (reborn) is a re-interpretation of the 2019 version (released on same-named EP). As the band has played the song live over the years, it has developped an additional persona which wanted to be documented through recording. All of the other songs were written between 2023 and 2025.
wazzara was created in 2015 as a solo project of Swiss singer and composer Barbara Brawand. Her first EP „zessa“, which was released in 2019, paved the way for all waters to flow further: George Necola joined the project in 2020 to add his magic as a co-composer and producer. Also, with the tides of time, a full live line-up gathered, and wazzara has been hexing the audience with untamed, hypnotizing and captivating sound experiences ever since.

My Recommendation
On February 13, 2026, the new album Arbor, the fourth album from the Swiss band Wazzara, was released. Combining doom, blackgaze, and a dark, melancholic, and ethereal beauty, the album can be described as cohesive and focused on the work of shadows, transformation, and the connection with nature itself.
The album is a wall of sound, combining elements of intense doom with bright and highly atmospheric blackgaze. It features passages that are sometimes slow, mid-tempo, deep, and explosive.
The beautiful vocals, led by Barbara Brawand, range from roars and harrowing growls to dark, clean, and resonant passages, creating a powerful and complex experience.
The opening track, 9 Confines, serves as an introduction to the intense narrative nature of the entire album, with Hollow song we have a great style, with all this power of post pagan black doom metal very intense, we keep with the next song Her Ashes Down The River a great combinations of voices very sutil and dense, great sound of black metal style, The album has an excellent combination of heavy, atmospheric, and classic black/doom metal sound, very good balance intense and oppressive darkness with beauty.

Beautiful Disaster!!
The Review!
By Darkzen
22/02/2026
Lily Löwe is a Norwegian rock band rooted in melodic hard rock. They made their debut at Melodi Grand Prix 2022 with the song “Bad Baby”, and released their debut album “LÖWE” later that year, produced by Trond Holter. The album received strong acclaim — Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen gave “Bad Baby” a 9/10 rating, while Norway Rock Magazine wrote: “In addition, Lily Löwe has a voice with power, punch, and attitude.”
In 2025, Lily Löwe released five singles — “Wild”, “Demons”, “Puppet Master”, “Glitter & Gore”, and the title track “Beautiful Disaster” — from their upcoming sophomore album, set for release in early 2026. With their raw energy, melodic edge, and emotional depth, Liliy Löwe is a band to watch.

Country: Norway
Style: Hard Rock
Album Band Lineup:

Track Listing:
Demons
Haunted House
Puppet Master
Beg For Your Life
Beautiful Disaster
Glitter & Gore
Our Secret
Wild
Love Like This
My Recommendation
The album star with the song Demons, a very good hig sound and sound, with a riff very hard and melodic too, the powerful emotional vocals of Lill Sofie Wilsberg contrasted with heavy guitar work from band members with backgrounds in groups like Jorn and Suicide Bombers, with e next song Beautiful Disaster highlight the band's focus on vulnerability and power, with Haunted House and Puppet Master here the high-energy singles that showcase the band's, "dark" rock approach, in Glitter & Gore noted for having a "glam-punk" feel, and the closet he album we have the song Love Like This described as a standout track with significant emotional depth.
Beautiful Disaster is a collection of songs that explores the chaos and contrast between strength and vulnerability. The album moves between raw emotion and high energy, balancing heavy riffs, big hooks, and dark atmospheres. Musically, it combines modern production with the heart of hard rock blending powerful vocals, driving guitars, and catchy melodies with a dark edge.

Embers of a Dying World!!
The Review!
By Darkzen
15/03/2026
Mystfall is a symphonic metal band based in Greece. Created on 2023 by Marialena Trikoglou after her debut album ‘VANITY’. The band has already released their first album ‘CELESTIAL VISION’ back in 2023 with SCARLET RECORDS, which recieved highly acclaimed reviews by the media worldwide.
The second studio album of the Greek symphonic metal ensemble, led by the extraordinary voice of soprano singer Marialena Trikoglou, will seduce the listener and take him to a journey in a world of dark and dreamy cinematic atmospheres.
“Embers Of A Dying World” depicts an alternative dimension where dreams are alive and fighting with nightmares to keep the human spirit intact. The main concept of the album is about the consequences of every person’s actions on Earth, and each song is a story yet untold.
The album is going to be released on March 20th, 2026 with some gigs already booked in.
Style: Symphonic Metal
Members
Marialena Trikoglou Vocals
Dimitris Miglis Drums
Aris Baris Rhythm Guitars
Produced, mixed and mastered by Dionisis Christodoulatos (Sorrowful Angels) at CFN Recondings Studios, and illustrated by the mighty Giannis Nakos/Remedy Art Design (Kamelot, Amaranthe, Evergrey),“Embers Of A Dying World” will be released in digital & digipack format
Tracklist
Whispers In The Tempest
Embers Of A Dying World
Guardians Of The Earth
The Nectar And The Pain
Sleeper In The Abyss
Fading Memories
Crimson Dawn
Cosmic Legends
Echoes Of Archadia
Remnants Of Tomorrow
My Recommendation
The opening track and first single from the album is "Whispers in the Tempest," a powerful and intense orchestral piece where the guitars shine with masterful skill. Marialena's beautiful voice is smooth, resonant, and beautifully crafted in its timbre and range, as is the accompanying instrumentation. Embers of a Dying World raises the intensity slightly, with power metal-style drums and prominent chords. The symphonic orchestra returns in Guardians of the Earth, featuring violins, cellos, and violas. Fading Memories incorporates elements of melodic death metal, with higher-pitched clean vocals and a faster tempo, while Remnants of Tomorrow closes the album on a calmer, gentler note.
The album is a clear demonstration of Mystfall's musical mastery: melodic, symphonic, rhythmic, and harmonic in its entirety. It's classic symphonic metal with a modern, operatic style, accompanied by Marianela's beautiful voice! Fantastic vocal range and timbre. A great musical work for fans of the genre in general, right from the first song, "Whispers in the Tempest." With "Embers of a Dying World," we have a similar musical line, emphasizing the song's intro and picking up the pace a bit.
A great album with a unique modern and operatic touch!

EP Song of Darkness!!
The Review!
By Darkzen
15/03/2026
In 2026, the band enters a new chapter with the release of the EP Song Of Darkness, marking the dawn of a creative cycle that expands both their sonic and conceptual horizons. Recorded at Mastersound Studio under Krull’s production, the record refines their signature fusion of orchestral depth and metallic intensity. It reveals a group at the height of its craft, balancing the sweeping scale of symphonic metal with an earthy, human pulse.
Lyrically, Song Of Darkness journeys into the shifting borders between myth, magic and history. The stories it tells of shadowed realms, dark times, and the courage that endures through loss, mirror timeless themes that have always guided the band’s vision. The title track "Song Of Darkness" is inspired by the medieval Icelandic saga of Gisli the Outlaw and takes the listener to times of murder and intrigue, guilt-ridden magical dreams and the hope of redemption.
Each song unfolds like a chapter in a saga: cinematic in scope, yet deeply personal in feeling. Siirala’s commanding and emotional performance brings the tales to life, her voice illuminating the storm of sound around her, while Krull’s growls anchor the music with raw force and conviction.

Tracklist
Song of darkness
Hall of the brave
Until the last day
Roots eternal
My Recommendation
The new EP from Leaves Eyes, featuring Song of Darkness, kicks off with the title track, a soft, light, melodic, and rhythmic song. Elina's sweet voice is very noticeable throughout, maintaining that great range and register she's been showcasing for several years now! "Hall of the Brave" features a touch of folk metal with a brilliantly pronounced symphonic sound, and Alexander makes an appearance, creating a good vocal combination between the two. Overall, the new EP is intense, combining heavy, dark, and romantic elements with a cinematic feel, while maintaining that understated folk metal style with symphonic elements in Elina's vocals!
Elina Siirala's vocals deliver a powerful, light, and smooth interpretation, sometimes providing the lead vocals and, at times, Alexander's heavy voice, as in the song "Until the Last Day." The EP focuses primarily on themes related to Viking mythology.
Musically, the EP showcases the band's mastery of musical contrasts. Soaring choirs and soaring strings rise alongside powerful riffs, while folk-inspired melodies whisper in the darkness. From the orchestral grandeur that opens the record to the final echoes of the closing chorus, Song of Darkness creates an atmosphere of tension and release that reflects both the brutality and the beauty of the legend.

Reborn to Light!
The Review!

26/04/2026
AEON GODS presents their second studio album, "Reborn To Light." The German band plays symphonic power metal, telling a story. AEON GODS is a band with an excellent sound. In less than an hour, they present ten songs that contain all the elements they showcase.
AEON GODS plays a fairly fast symphonic power metal, giving the drummer ample room to demonstrate his double bass drum technique. The guitars that accompany this sound are very skillful in creating a powerful sound without losing the melodic touch. Furthermore, the vocals feature beautiful harmonies.

Reborn To Light (Amduat pt.IV)
Feather Or Heart
Rebellion (Re’s Dying Reign pt.I)
Blood and Sand (Re’s Dying Reign pt.II)
Farewell (Re’s Dying Reign pt.III)
My Recommendation
AEON GODS presents their Symphonic Power Metal with a dizzying and fast rhythm, allowing the drummer to showcase his impressive double bass drum technique. The accompanying guitars achieve a powerful harmony without losing the melodic aspect.
Reborn to Light (2026) by Aeon Gods is a symphonic power metal album with an Egyptian narrative and theatrical staging. It features fast tempos from the very beginning, powerful and melodic guitar solos, and a prominent keyboard! The album boasts a crisp and crystalline production, with predictable and energetic structures that can feel somewhat repetitive in other parts of the album. Representative tracks such as "Birth of Light," "Feather or Heart," "Rebellion," and "Blood and Sand" stand out for their drama and powerful, melodic chord progressions and catchy choruses.
I think it's one of the best symphonic power metal albums of the year as well, due to its intense style of the genre, which combines high speed, vocals, harmony and high melodic sensitivity.

26/04/2026
Anthea is a symphonic metal band from Los Angeles, California, known for their distinctive theatrical approach and dynamic blend of symphonic, melodic, and progressive metal elements. Founded in 2015 by vocalist and keyboardist Diego Valadez, Anthea emerged from a desire to explore a more expressive and cinematic musical language combining powerful metal foundations with strong melodic sensibilities and dramatic atmospheres.
With the single "Beyond The Dawn", Anthea presents a mature and confident chapter in their journey, offering a cohesive yet varied listening experience shaped by themes of growth, transition, uncertainty, and renewal. Blending compelling melodies, powerful orchestration, and expressive songwriting, the band continues to establish itself as a distinctive voice within modern symphonic metal.

Crystal Moon
Wanderer’s Quell
Whispers of the Heart
Duality of Gaia
Burnin’ in the Third Degree
My Recommendation
The album by the American band Anthea is a blend of melodic, symphonic, and modern progressive metal with distinctly cinematic elements. It's energetic, powerful, and melodic, with a potent sound that combines clean and harsh vocals. It features 11 tracks, including one instrumental and one cover.
We begin with the title track, "Beyond the Dawn," a heavy, powerful, and dynamic song with fast, intense blast beats interwoven with excellent orchestral moments. Next up is "Phantom in the Masquerade," a standout track that is highly theatrical, cinematic, and memorable, boasting a strong melodic hook.
Then comes "Awakening (Song for Spring)," a melodic song that feels like a spiritual sequel to "Song for Winter" from their previous album. Next is "Bygone Age (Chicxulub)," a curiously titled track. It's a heavy song, but it maintains the same style and feel, with a scientific theme and an epic feel. Then comes "Crystal Moon," an instrumental track with a dreamlike, atmospheric, and folk-metal style. Finally, we finish with "Burnin' in the Third Degree," an eighties-inspired cover of the Tahnee Caine and Tryanglz song from the Terminator movie, which keeps with the band's tradition of a great action scene!
A great album with its own unique sound and style!

The Force of Nature!
The Review!
By Darkzen
24/05/2026
Much can be said about Dutch epic symphonic metalers Epinikion, but their story certainly is unique. Hailing from the Netherlands, former athletes Renate de Boer and Robert Tangerman initially started an ambitious project to write a rock opera album. With no musical background to speak of, but with incredible talent, inspiration, and sheer will, the critically acclaimed debut Inquisition came to life.
Epinikion is a ‘hymne for the winner’. In Ancient Greece the heroic stories of athletes were sung in an epinikion after their victories at major events. A fitting band name for musicians rising from the ashes of their former sports careers, as reflected by the phoenix in the band’s logo.
With Kimberley Jongen, Maarten Jungschläger, and Rutger Klijn joining in 2023, and Michal Gis completing the line-up in 2024, the band set its basis for a second album, with recordings being completed in 2025.
From the very beginning Epinikion combined heavy guitar riffs with subtle progressive and heavy metal influences, complimented with harmonic and bombastic orchestral lines. With their new music, the band takes it a step further, blending each bandmember’s musical influences and creativity into a unique and refreshing sound.
Epinikion is ready to unleash their upcoming album The Force of Nature upon the world. Mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen, and featuring artwork from Giannis Nakos, the album reflects the band’s conscious decision to commit and go big, and it promises to be a blast of a successor to their debut…

Run with the Wolves
What Goes up Must Come Down

My Recommendation
Released on February 6, 2026, Epinikion's The Force of Nature is a fine independent symphonic metal album from the Netherlands. It features a musical style with cinematic orchestration, powerful, melodic, and smooth riffs, and soft yet distinctive female vocals.
It's classic epic symphonic power metal with powerful guitars, symphonic sections, and well-crafted orchestral atmospheres. Kimberley Jongen's beautiful vocals stand out for their clarity, smooth register, clean sound, and power, perfectly complementing the musicality. Tracks like the opening song, "The Moon, the Sun and the Stars," open the album with that cinematic feel, an instrumental introduction with a symphony of keyboards, confident chords, enhanced percussion, and an immersive atmosphere. And the rest of the album continues to offer excellent performances!
It's a good production, one of the most promising releases in European symphonic metal so far, but at times there are similarities between some songs and styles that can be somewhat predictable. Nevertheless, it's undoubtedly a good album from 2026.

The Battle Of The Dead!!
The Review!
By Darkzen
23/05/2026
Embrace Of Souls is an Italian power metal band founded by drummer and composer Michele Olmi, conceived with the aim of bringing together talented musicians around a shared vision rooted in collaboration, brotherhood, and a deep passion for classic metal. Initially born as a studio project, the band took shape with the release of their debut album "The Number Of Destiny" in 2021, receiving positive feedback on an international level and notable acclaim in Japan.
Drawing inspiration from ’80s and ’90s heavy and power metal, as well as the epic and symphonic metal of the early 2000s, Embrace Of Souls developed a sound characterized by powerful riffs, epic atmospheres, and strong melodic sensibility. Over time, the project evolved into a full live band, allowing the group to further consolidate its artistic identity and deepen its expressive range.
A key element of this evolution is the current vocal pairing. Giacomo Rossi, already involved in previous releases, now takes on a central role as lead vocalist while Martina Mazzeo, an accomplished soprano vocalist, adds a symphonic and operatic dimension to the band’s music. Together, their voices embody the duality that defines Embrace Of Souls: light and darkness, power and elegance, intensity and emotion.
Having shared the stage with renowned acts such as Domine, Vision Divine, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, and Rhapsody Of Fire, Embrace Of Souls continue to refine their identity while looking toward the future. The band is now working on new material, further developing their epic and narrative-driven approach to solidify their presence on the international power metal scene.
This new chapter is marked by a renewed line-up. Giacomo Rossi steps forward as lead vocalist, delivering a powerful and expressive performance, while Martina Mazzeo’s soprano vocals add a theatrical dimension. Their interplay reinforces the balance between power metal intensity and symphonic elegance, a dualism of light and dark that runs throughout the album.
The album also features a special guest appearance by Morby (Domine), further strengthening the connection with the classic Italian power metal tradition.
"The Battle Of The Dead" was mixed and mastered by Alessio Garavello at Rogue Studios, London, enhancing the clarity, impact, and cinematic depth of the band’s sound.
Country: Italy
Style: Symphonic Power Metal
Line-up:
Giacomo Rossi – Vocals
Martina Mazzeo – Vocals
Edward De Rosa – Guitars
Xavier Rota – Bass
Davide Baldelli – Keyboards
Michele Olmi – Drums
Track Listing:
The Battle Of The Dead

The Plague
The Gathering

Who Can Save Us
Betrayal
The Dark Lord
The War (feat. Morby)
Sacrifice
Desolate Lands
My Recommendation
The new album! Unlike previous releases, this work is an 11-track concept album where the music is strictly subordinate to and dominated by the narrative of an epic medieval fantasy. The arrangements are designed to simulate cinematic dramatic art, where harmonic tensions, tempo changes, and textural density reflect the progression of the story.
Musically, the album is firmly rooted in the tradition of late 80s and 90s European power metal. The classical musical influence within Italian metal is quite noticeable, and the technical pillars of its instrumentation stand out for:
Double-Kick Rhythm: Michele Olmi drives the rhythm section, operating with controlled aggression and precise double-kick patterns. This imbues the compositions with fast, militant marching rhythms that support the weight of the denser tracks.
Neoclassical and Melodic Guitars: Edward De Rosa's string work stands out for its balance between crisp, classically inspired riffs and highly melodic solo passages, which constantly interact with the keyboards.
Layers of Keyboards and Orchestration: Davide Baldelli's keyboards play a crucial role, injecting massive orchestral arrangements, choral elements, and harmonic pads that provide both impact and clarity and direction, preventing the mix from becoming saturated or losing technical definition.
One of the most enriching instrumental aspects is the interplay of two vocal lines, exploiting the classic "light/dark" technique with:
Giacomo Rossi leads with a powerful, expressive, and mid-to-low vocal performance that lays the foundation for the album's most tense and dark sections.
Martina Mazzeo, with her operatic soprano technique, introduces a theatrical and neoclassical dimension that elevates the orchestral melodies to purely cinematic territory.
As an added bonus for old-school enthusiasts, the track "The War" features a special guest appearance by vocalist Morby (from the veteran Italian band Domine), injecting an extra dose of drama and traditional character into the album's final stretch.
A highly recommended work to analyze and enjoy from the perspective of the symphonic arrangement and the technical execution of the drums in fast tempos!
Score
90/100

Moonlight Haze and extraordinary vocalist Chiara Tricarico (Avantasia) brought symphonic power metal to the next level throughout the tracklist of their fifth studio release, indulging in extremely mighty, epic and theatrical moments.
Guided by striking instrumentals parts, catchy and epic melodies, and truly introspective lyrics, the EP once again proves the talent and boldness of the Italian unit.
“Interstellar Madness” is an invitation to take on a journey through cosmic landscapes and beyond, led by a whirlwind of emotions – madness here is to be intended as a deeper and overwhelming way of experiencing reality, investigating and going beyond what lies on the surface of things in order to be able to discover hidden parts of the inner self.

Interstellar Madness
Interstellar Madness: Finale
My Recommendation
MOONLIGHT band will release their fifth album, Interstellar Madness, on May 22, 2026, via Scarlet Records. A six-track EP brimming with optimism and energy!
The album kicks off with “Moonlight Legion,” a short track with an oriental touch and a victorious, fast, and melodic feel, featuring Chiara's beautiful vocals! Next up is “Lost in Moonlit Symphonies,” a fast and melodic opening track with choruses and fast, harmonic rhythms. The third track, “We Are Fire,” has another light oriental feel, with strong and courageous choruses and a steadily building intensity.
“Shine” maintains a dizzying, harmonious, and melodic rhythm once again! Another exciting track follows, culminating in the final two tracks: “Interstellar Madness” and “Interstellar Madness: Finale.” The first track is a lengthy piece that includes a prelude, with three movements (or technical musical terms for composition) consisting of three acts, a concertato, and an intermesso, apparently sung in Italian. It concludes with an instrumental track featuring a brilliant keyboard performance by Giulio Capone.
The EP offers a fusion of fast, melodic, harmonic, and furious guitars, with a robust yet understated bass line that delivers remarkable energy. The beautiful Chiara Tricarico shines with her ability to perfectly balance operatic moments with powerful notes, soaring harmonics, and metal-infused vocals.
We have a great EP here: intense, melodic, and full of energy, featuring classic Symphonic Metal and Power Metal with that brilliant Italian touch!

Overwhelmed!!

14/06/2026
LUFEH is a sophisticated fusion of progressive rock, metal, and jazz influences, creating a sound that blends technical complexity with deep musical emotion. Founded by drummer Lufeh, the band has evolved over the years, gaining recognition for its unique approach to blending genres and pushing musical boundaries.
This latest change comes as LUFEH prepares for the release of their second studio album, Overwhelmed. Recorded at the renowned Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, CA, the album showcases a thrilling mix of progressive rock, fusion, and metal influences. Produced by Gera Penna, LUFEH's talented keyboardist and back vocalist, Overwhelmed features 8 tracks that are both intricate and emotionally charged, representing the band’s growth and refinement of sound.
"This album is the result of a lot of dedication, maturity, and the realization of a dream come true. Recording at the historic Sunset Sound studio here in LOS ANGELES, where the biggest names in world music recorded their hits, was truly an unforgettable experience. We have impactful songs, heavy ballads, a good dose of doublé pedal on drums, guitar, bass, and keyboard solos, all mixed with the incredible voice of Genny Luke."

Overwhelmed
Feels Like I’m A Ghost
Live The New Today
War of Emotions
End of the Tunnel
My Recommendation
The new album boasts a rock-solid rhythm section and melodic reinvention. The album's backbone remains a feast for lovers of rhythmic grooves and syncopation. Drummer and founder Lufeh Batera, along with bassist Duca Tambasco, solidify a formidable rhythm section that moves with astonishing ease between heavy rock and metal, and the fluid transitions of jazz fusion. The addition of Deio Tambasco on guitar injects a remarkable freshness into the band's sound, contributing both powerful riffs and expressive solos. However, the most significant sonic enhancement of this work is the inclusion of guest vocalist Ginny Luke. Her dynamic range not only elevates the album's vocal textures, but her violin playing also transforms the group's atmosphere. In key tracks such as the eponymous "Overwhelmed" and the ambitious "Feels Like I'm A Ghost" (designed in the spirit of a mini rock opera), Luke's violin adds a neoclassical and melancholic dimension that greatly enriches Gera Penna's keyboard work.
The album between meter and atmosphere; The musical journey starts strong in "He Commands The Sun and The Stars", a track that from the perspective of the drums stands out for its complex rhythms, but which ends in a highly accessible chorus. The band knows when to slow things down and showcases its versatility in "Breathe," a song with a more optimistic and direct vibe. One of the high points in terms of experimentation is "Double Dip." Here, the group masterfully alternates between time signatures, perhaps 6/8 and 4/4, crowning the experience with the introduction of a Bulbul Tarang (an exotic stringed instrument that breaks with the traditional conventions of Western prog). Towards the second half, the album explores denser nuances. "Live The New Today" emerges as the album's most instrumentally rich composition, moving from serene passages to dizzying double-bass drum bursts with power metal undertones, complemented by a section of linked solos where the bass, guitar, and violin engage in a duel. Meanwhile, "War of Emotions" brings out the band's "metal soul," relying heavily on keyboard textures to maintain cohesion with the rest of the work. The album closes with "End of the Tunnel," a piece that embraces fusion with a superb keyboard solo in its middle section, and concludes with a hypnotic, cyclical guitar riff, leaving a sense of technical boundlessness.
Lufeh has delivered a technically sound album, ideal for fans of titans like Dream Theater, Rush, or Haken, but with a fluidity and focus on melody that sets it apart from the sterile and commonplace pyrotechnics of other styles. A solid, sophisticated, and highly enjoyable comeback.

Shadows and Dust!!
The Review!
By Darkzen
14/06/2026
Forged in Vancouver, Canada, in 2011, Iron Kingdom has spent fifteen years carrying the torch for classic Heavy Metal with unwavering conviction. Inspired by the genre’s titans, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Helloween, The Scorpions, and Rush—the band built its identity on electrifying stage presence, intricate twin-guitar harmonies, and a steadfast devotion to the melodic, adventurous spirit of Traditional Metal. As the band puts it, they formed because modern Metal had “forgotten about the melody, the stage show, and the accessibility of the music,” so they chose to “pick up the torch and do it ourselves.”
Now, in 2026, Iron Kingdom enters a defining moment with the release of their sixth studio album, ‘Shadows and Dust’, arriving June 6, 2026, a date that symbolically aligns with both their 15th anniversary and the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. As the band notes, “The release of our 6th studio album… coincides with our 15th anniversary… You could say the planets aligned.” ‘Shadows and Dust’ marks several firsts and milestones:
It is the first album recorded entirely in the band’s own home studio, a major step in their long-standing DIYethos.
It showcases a darker, more emotionally charged lyrical landscape, exploring themes of death, impermanence, hardship, and resilience.
Musically, it blends the band’s classic Heavy Metal roots with new textures, progressive touches, and a renewed sense of storytelling.
Its release show will see Iron Kingdom headlining Vancouver’s Rickshaw Theatre, a venue where they once opened for their heroes, now a symbol of how far they’ve climbed.
The album’s creation reflects the band’s collaborative maturity. Songs were developed through jam-based writing sessions, where riffs, lyrics, and concepts evolved organically. As Leighton describes, lyric inspiration often comes from “books, and sometimes movies… as long as it’s thought-provoking,” while Chris emphasizes the band’s commitment to crafting albums that take listeners on a journey.
Across six albums, Iron Kingdom has transformed from a Hard-Rock-leaning young band into a fully realized Traditional Metal powerhouse. Their sound, described by Chris as “Classic, Powerful, Epic, Adventurous, Melodic”, draws from classic Heavy Metal, Power Metal, Progressive Metal, and Neo-Classical influences. Yet despite their evolution, their mission remains unchanged: to deliver raw, energetic, no-click-track, nobacking- track Heavy Metal with the spirit of the genre’s golden age. Their live shows remain a cornerstone of their identity, “a real force on the live stage,” commanding attention with movement, musicianship, and authenticity.
Fifteen years in, Iron Kingdom stands as one of Canada’s most dedicated champions of Traditional Heavy Metal. Their journey, marked by relentless touring, lineup changes, near-disasters, and triumphant reinventions, has shaped a band that thrives on perseverance and passion.
With ‘Shadows and Dust’, Iron Kingdom enters its next era with sharpened purpose, renewed fire, and a sound that honours the past while forging boldly ahead. Their story is one of endurance, evolution, and the unbreakable power of Heavy Metal.

My Recommendation
The album kicks off with a bang in "Defenders," a fast, heavy track with enormous emotional depth inspired by the Battle of Gdansk. Musically, it's a pure adrenaline rush with hints of Primal Fear and Tyran Pace, combining power and melancholy. Next up, "Line Of Fire" shakes the speakers with a devastating riff by Merrick that directly evokes Megadeth's golden age, focused entirely on speed and razor-sharp solos. This continues until the final stretch, when "Dark Demands" emerges once again from the mind of Megan Merrick, who manages to craft a dark and malevolent track that pays direct tribute to the sound of Judas Priest's Painkiller. It's followed by "Starlight," an interesting amalgamation where the drums pay homage to the band's roots, crossed with guitar influences in the style of Angel Witch. The curtain falls masterfully with "Sacred Fire," listed by the band themselves as one of their favorites. a timeless burst of energy filled with epic riffs reminiscent of Iron Maiden and Dio that promises to become an indispensable pillar of their shows.
The album features a Twin Guitar Attack and a "Rock 'n' Roll/Heavy Metal" approach. While the band's stylistic core continues to pay homage to titans like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Helloween, Shadows and Dust flirts with a subtle and refreshing Rock 'n' Roll tinge in its overall structure, injecting highly accessible hooks underpinned by impeccable technical arrangements. A guitar duel and devastating riffs—in fact, the tandem between Chris Osterman and Megan Merrick is the driving force of the album itself. The album masterfully transitions from breakneck speeds akin to traditional thrash to anthemic mid-tempos, with bassist Leighton Holmes providing a highly dynamic wall of low frequencies, while drummer Max Friesen delivers performances ranging from heavy, military-marching rhythms to dynamic beats reminiscent of the band's early years.
Osterman commands the vocal front with his characteristic high range, but on this occasion, he experiments with more aggressive phrasing and greater melodic movement throughout the songs, precisely adapting to the album's somber tone.
Shadows and Dust is a solid statement of intent. Iron Kingdom demonstrates that it's possible to mature and explore new musical textures (adding touches of thrash, speed, and progressive passages) without abandoning the melodic core and accessibility of classic heavy metal.
