The New band! From Ukraine! Our friend Katrina (Kate) She will tell us more!
Hello my friend! Kate! Thanks for having you back here, your space and home! Now with a new band! How have you been?
Kate:
Hi! It feels so good to be back to making music. After having a baby, I thought it would be a long time before I could allow myself to start a new project again. But it happened sooner than I ever imagined. Life without music is hard for me — I didn’t last long.
Tell us a little bit, well knowing about the problem even with the war, how are you?
Kate:
It’s dangerous in Ukraine now — a kind of life you can never get used to. Our band rehearsed in a studio in central Kyiv, and just weeks later, a missile strike damaged the building.
We also picked one of two photo studios at the last minute — that same night, the other was destroyed by a drone.
This war is ruthless. The enemy is merciless — toward both soldiers and civilians. That’s all people abroad need to know.
If the war is on your land, it affects you. But if you're still alive, you have the right to sing, to love, to live.
We hope for better days and global support. It’s crucial the world remembers this war is not over — and the aggressor must be stopped.
Tell us about this comeback with a new band! How was this? Despite the situation in Ukraine.
Kate:
All the band members are my longtime friends from the Ukrainian metal scene. Serhii has played in many bands — most notably IMMD and Glymur. Mykyta is also from Glymur, and Taras came from Wave X. Each of them is a talented musician with years of experience in heavy music and other projects.
They came to me during a tough time — not just as musicians, but as friends. They supported me and played a demo. They just wanted to distract me and lift my spirits. I hadn’t planned to return to music so soon, but I fell in love with the song and knew it was worth all the challenges.
Now we’re working in an amazing synergy — we really hear each other, adapt, and create something unique for the Ukrainian scene.
Tell us something more about the name of your band?
Kate:
“Luta” or “Fury” was born as the opposite of words like “compliant,” “submissive,” or “passive.” Through a female image and female vocals, we aim to show that strength can exist even in something as small as a plant breaking through asphalt, growing and reaching for the sun.
What's the musical concept or style of your new band? Tell your new fans a little about it!
Kate:
Our songs are meant to inspire people to put an end to suffering and take life into their own hands. We create Ukrainian music on the edge of tenderness and brutality: emotional, pure vocal delivery paired with heavy guitars and cinematic arrangements.
We aim to be a light for those who are tired and disillusioned — a source of motivation for those who’ve lost hope.
Our lyrics tell stories of personal breaking points, self-discovery, and escaping the traps set by others, by reality, and by the mind itself.
Any news on what your new band's reveal will be like? Meaning, will a single be released soon?
Kate:
Yes, our debut single is coming very soon. It’s called “In the Land of Cold” — a soundtrack for crossing your own personal polar circle. It’s a cold confession that cuts through the silence of the night. This song sounds like a prayer from the ninth circle of hell, born from the acceptance that things will never be the same again. It’s for those searching for light beyond the wall of frost — and who always find it.
The symbolism of the “land of cold” reflects a state where the heroine is no longer shaken by what once tore her apart. It’s a threshold crossed by those who cared too much, loved too deeply, were too kind and good.
When the last hope burns out — the cold arrives. And in that cold lies immense power. Untouchability. Rebellion.
I saw the photos you've posted on your social media, and I'd like to think that's the new single! Have you written that new song?
Kate:
This is the very first demo I heard — the one that stayed with me. It touched my heart deeply. I truly lived this song. For me, it became a metaphor for strength.
Many people don’t know this, but I’m a single mother. I went through a divorce just months after my child was born. This single deeply reflects my transformation.
Everything that once burned and hurt inside me has turned to ice and cold — and I’m ready to carry that meaning forward.
To dig deeper into people’s struggles and my own. To ignite that same light at the end of the tunnel for every lost soul.
Given this problem in Ukraine, how will you promote or present your new material?
Kate:
We write songs in Ukrainian and focus on a Ukrainian audience. A strong desire awoke in us — to support our own people, those who share our language and our emotions.
But the war has shown the world that Ukraine and its people are strong and unbreakable. We’ve become known — and heard — beyond our borders.
So maybe our music will resonate with international listeners too, even though we sing in our native language.
We have big plans: a single, a music video, and a full album by the end of the year. We’re working hard — and we’ll have something powerful to show the world.
During all this time, how have you been training your voice or has a new musical style been born?
Kate:
I’ve been singing for 18 years — most of my life. I’ve explored different genres and vocal techniques, but I’ve come to realize that singing should come from emotion.
When a vocalist is technically skilled, they stop thinking about which techniques they’re using — it becomes instinctive. It’s always a mix of techniques, sometimes not logically connected at all. I don’t sing thinking, “Okay, here comes a belt, then mix voice, now I’ll add some distortion, and finish with falsetto.” I just sing what I feel, and the techniques follow naturally to express the heart of the song.
Right now, I dream of learning extreme vocals and adding them to my toolkit. I never prioritized them before, but now I feel like something’s missing without them. I’ve started learning to scream — carefully and with vocal safety in mind — because we still have many recordings ahead, and I want to keep up the pace without harming my voice.

Kate:
I’d be happy to share photos from our new photoshoot — it would be a pleasure to reveal who’s been hiding behind the blur.
What would you say to listeners to captivate them with Luta Band?
Kate:
We’re here. We’re with you. We hear and see your pain and your joy.
We’re here for those who:
– Have faced loss and embarked on a path of deep transformation
– Are fans of atmospheric female vocals and meaningful lyrics
– Are going through profound inner changes
– Need a push, motivation to change for the better or to let go of the worse

Kate:
I’d like to say a few words about my previous band — Scarleth. It gave me so much. We learned together, made mistakes, wrote music, and built friendships. I’m grateful for our long journey of nine years.
I was just a young 18-year-old when I joined, unsure where I had landed. Scarleth existed before me and will continue to exist as long as its founder—the heart and soul of the band—is still here.
What does Katrina have for us with Luta Band?
Kate:
Luta is my band. I’m more than just a part of it — I’m one of its founders. This is my new story, and it holds so much more of me than I’ve ever shared with listeners before.
Now, I finally have the freedom to break away from a fixed format or genre and create something new. To write in the style that feels closest to me — adding a touch of pop, some electronics, and bringing the vocals to the forefront.
I want to be truly heard when I speak to people, to tell my own story through my songs.
Luta will show the world the new, fully formed musician I’ve become. I sincerely believe that when you give a piece of yourself to your listeners — they come back to you.

¡Hola mi amiga! ¡Kate! ¡Gracias por tenerte de vuelta aquí, en tu espacio y hogar! ¡Ahora con una nueva banda! ¿Cómo has estado?
Kate:
¡Hola! Me alegra mucho volver a hacer música. Después de tener un bebé, pensé que pasaría mucho tiempo antes de que pudiera permitirme empezar un nuevo proyecto. Pero sucedió antes de lo que imaginaba. La vida sin música es difícil para mí; no duré mucho.
Cuéntanos un poco, conociendo bien el problema incluso con la guerra, ¿cómo estás?
Kate:
La vida en Ucrania es peligrosa ahora mismo; es una vida a la que nunca te acostumbras. Nuestra banda ensayaba en un estudio en el centro de Kiev, y solo unas semanas después, un misil dañó el edificio.
También elegimos uno de los dos estudios fotográficos en el último minuto; esa misma noche, el otro fue destruido por un dron.
Esta guerra es despiadada. El enemigo es implacable, tanto con los soldados como con los civiles. Eso es todo lo que la gente en el extranjero necesita saber.
Si la guerra está en tu tierra, te afecta. Pero si sigues vivo, tienes derecho a cantar, a amar, a vivir.
Esperamos días mejores y apoyo mundial. Es crucial que el mundo recuerde que esta guerra no ha terminado y que hay que detener al agresor.
¡Cuéntanos sobre este regreso con una nueva banda! ¿Cómo fue? A pesar de la situación en Ucrania.
Kate:
Todos los miembros de la banda son viejos amigos míos de la escena metalera ucraniana. Serhii ha tocado en muchas bandas, entre las que destacan IMMD y Glymur. Mykyta también es de Glymur, y Taras vino de Wave X. Cada uno de ellos es un músico talentoso con años de experiencia en música heavy y otros proyectos.
Se acercaron a mí en un momento difícil, no solo como músicos, sino como amigos. Me apoyaron y tocaron un demo. Solo querían distraerme y animarme. No tenía pensado volver a la música tan pronto, pero me enamoré de la canción y supe que valía la pena todos los desafíos.
Ahora estamos trabajando en una sinergia increíble: realmente nos escuchamos, nos adaptamos y creamos algo único para la escena ucraniana.

Kate:

Kate:
Nuestras canciones buscan inspirar a las personas a poner fin al sufrimiento y tomar las riendas de su vida. Creamos música ucraniana que roza la ternura y la brutalidad: una entrega vocal pura y emotiva, acompañada de guitarras potentes y arreglos cinematográficos.
Nuestro objetivo es ser una luz para quienes están cansados y desilusionados, una fuente de motivación para quienes han perdido la esperanza.
Nuestras letras cuentan historias de momentos de quiebre personal, autodescubrimiento y cómo escapar de las trampas que otros, la realidad y la propia mente nos tienden.
¿Alguna novedad sobre cómo será la presentación de tu nueva banda? ¿Es decir, lanzarán un sencillo pronto?
Kate:
Sí, nuestro sencillo debut saldrá muy pronto. Se llama "In the Land of Cold", una banda sonora para cruzar tu propio círculo polar. Es una fría confesión que rompe el silencio de la noche. Esta canción suena como una plegaria del noveno círculo del infierno, nacida de la aceptación de que las cosas nunca volverán a ser como antes. Es para quienes buscan la luz más allá del muro de hielo, y siempre la encuentran.
El simbolismo de la "tierra del frío" refleja un estado en el que la heroína ya no se ve afectada por lo que una vez la destrozó. Es un umbral cruzado por quienes se preocuparon demasiado, amaron demasiado profundamente, fueron demasiado amables y buenos.
Cuando la última esperanza se desvanece, llega el frío. Y en ese frío reside un inmenso poder. Intocabilidad. Rebelión.
Vi las fotos que publicaste en tus redes sociales, ¡y me gustaría pensar que ese es el nuevo sencillo! ¿Has escrito tú esa nueva canción?
Kate:
Este es el primer demo que escuché, el que se me quedó grabado. Me conmovió profundamente. Viví esta canción de verdad. Para mí, se convirtió en una metáfora de fuerza.
Mucha gente no lo sabe, pero soy madre soltera. Me divorcié pocos meses después del nacimiento de mi hijo. Este sencillo refleja profundamente mi transformación.
Todo lo que una vez me quemó y me dolió por dentro se ha convertido en hielo y frío, y estoy lista para seguir adelante con ese significado.
Para profundizar en las luchas de los demás y en las mías. Para encender esa misma luz al final del túnel para cada alma perdida.
Ante este problema en Ucrania, ¿cómo promocionarán o presentarán su nuevo material?
Kate:
Escribimos canciones en ucraniano y nos enfocamos en el público ucraniano. Despertó en nosotros un fuerte deseo de apoyar a nuestra gente, a quienes comparten nuestro idioma y nuestras emociones.
Pero la guerra ha demostrado al mundo que Ucrania y su gente son fuertes e inquebrantables. Nos hemos hecho conocidos y escuchados más allá de nuestras fronteras.
Así que quizás nuestra música también tenga eco en oyentes internacionales, aunque cantemos en nuestra lengua materna.
Tenemos grandes planes: un sencillo, un video musical y un álbum completo para finales de año. Estamos trabajando duro y tendremos algo impactante que mostrar al mundo.
Durante todo este tiempo, ¿cómo has estado entrenando tu voz o ha surgido algún nuevo estilo musical?
Kate:
Llevo 18 años cantando, casi toda mi vida. He explorado diferentes géneros y técnicas vocales, pero me he dado cuenta de que cantar debe surgir de la emoción.
Cuando un vocalista tiene habilidad técnica, deja de pensar en las técnicas que usa; se vuelve instintivo. Siempre es una mezcla de técnicas, a veces sin ninguna conexión lógica. No canto pensando: "Bueno, aquí viene un cinturón, luego la voz mixta, ahora añadiré algo de distorsión y terminaré con falsete". Simplemente canto lo que siento, y las técnicas surgen de forma natural para expresar la esencia de la canción.
Ahora mismo, sueño con aprender voces extremas y añadirlas a mi repertorio. Nunca las prioricé antes, pero ahora siento que me falta algo sin ellas. He empezado a aprender a gritar, con cuidado y teniendo en cuenta la seguridad vocal, porque todavía tenemos muchas grabaciones por delante y quiero mantener el ritmo sin dañar mi voz.
¿Qué más nos puedes compartir? ¿Algún adelanto? ¿Sorpresas?
Kate:
Me encantaría compartir fotos de nuestra nueva sesión de fotos. Sería un placer revelar quién se esconde tras la imagen borrosa.
¿Qué les dirías a tus oyentes para cautivarlos con Luta Band?
Kate:
Estamos aquí. Estamos contigo. Escuchamos y vemos tu dolor y tu alegría.
Estamos aquí para quienes:
– Han enfrentado una pérdida y emprendido un camino de profunda transformación
– Son fanáticos de las voces femeninas atmosféricas y letras con significado
– Están atravesando profundos cambios internos
– Necesitan un impulso, una motivación para cambiar a mejor o para dejar atrás lo peor
¿Algo más que quieras compartir con nosotros? ¿O algo más que se me haya olvidado preguntar?
Kate:
Quisiera hablar un poco sobre mi anterior banda, Scarleth. Me dio muchísimo. Aprendimos juntos, cometimos errores, compusimos música y forjamos amistades. Estoy agradecida por nuestro largo camino de nueve años.
Tenía apenas 18 años cuando me uní, sin saber dónde había llegado. Scarleth existía antes que yo y seguirá existiendo mientras su fundadora, el alma de la banda, siga aquí.
¿Qué nos depara Katrina con Luta Band?
Kate:
Luta es mi banda. Soy más que solo una parte de ella: soy una de sus fundadoras. Esta es mi nueva historia, y contiene mucho más de mí de lo que jamás he compartido con mis oyentes.
Ahora, por fin tengo la libertad de romper con un formato o género fijo y crear algo nuevo. De escribir con el estilo que más me identifica, añadiendo un toque pop, algo de electrónica y dando protagonismo a la voz.
Quiero que me escuchen de verdad cuando hablo con la gente, contar mi propia historia a través de mis canciones.
Luta le mostrará al mundo la nueva y completa música en la que me he convertido. Creo sinceramente que cuando compartes una parte de ti con tus oyentes, ellos te lo agradecen.
