2018年東京にて、フロントウーマンのInger（ex-SALTY DOG)、Gt.Tyra（Conception Complex）、マニピュレーターKの3人で結成。サポートベースにはDaiki(MeloiksigN)、サポートドラムにはUi(DRIVE FAR)、Mark(NEW BREED)や山崎玲生(Dogma)らが参加し、東京を中心に活動を始める。

こんにちは。おかげさまですっかり良くなりました。
ありがとう
あなた自身について少し教えてください。趣味は？
Inger:
私には趣味が多すぎるのですが、音楽以外では主に芸術です。日本に来る前は漫画家になるつもりだったんですが、音楽活動が忙しくなってしまい、今はまた漫画家に戻っています。映画、ビデオゲーム、漫画も大好きです。私はどうしようもない腐女子でありオタクであることを認めなければなりません。
音楽的バックグラウンドは？
Inger:
私はずっと音楽を愛し、音楽からインスピレーションを受けてきました。父が大の音楽ファンで、その遺伝子を受け継いだのだと思いますが、父と同じように、私も正式な音楽教育を受けたことはありません。ノルウェーの高校時代にバンドを結成し、ボーカルレッスンを受け始めました。そして、大学進学のために日本に来た時に、SALTY DOGというバンドを結成しました。
メタルの中で影響を受けたものは何ですか？
Inger:
ヘビーなサウンドも好きですが、キャッチーなメロディーも大好きです。ボーカルに関しては、ColdrainやFalloutboy、そしてもちろんChester BenningtonやMaria Brinkにとても影響を受けています。でも、私の声質はとてもポップなので、レディー・ガガのようなロック以外の人たちから多くの影響を受けています。いつかスクリームボーカルを習いたいと思っていますが、今のところは叫んだり、何か特別な技をしたりはせず、ただ気持ちよく自然に歌えるように努めています。私はElectric CallboyやLas Vegasのようなエレクトロニックサウンドも大好きなので、できる限り自分のバンドがその方向に進むように影響を与えようとしています。

Inger:
これまでで一番好きなバンドはリンキン・パークとシステム・オブ・ア・ダウンで、この2つは様々な面で私に影響を与えてくれました。ニューメタルは一般的にあまりリスペクトされていません（特にブラックメタルが主流の世界で）。だからこそ、ニューメタルは私にインスピレーションを与えてくれただけでなく、自分の好きなものを好きになり、ジャンルにとらわれすぎないという強い意志と精神を育んでくれました。
だからこそ、私はキャッチーなポップソングが好きで、良い気分にさせてくれるものなら大抵のものは聴くということを恥ずかしがらずに認めます。最近のお気に入りは、ブリトニー・スピアーズ、ケシャ、波動拳！、マリーナ・アンド・ザ・ダイモンズ、リナ・サワヤマ、そして『ヒプノシス・マイク』のサントラです。私はオールドスクールのユーロビートの大ファンでもあります。
日本のスーパーバンドで歌うことになったきっかけは何ですか？
Inger:
ちょっと長い話になるんですが、要約するとSALTY DOGは城西国際大学の学園祭でバンドとして結成されました。ベースの人とカラオケに行ったら、彼が私の歌を気に入ってくれたんです。学園祭での演奏がとても楽しかったので、自分たちで曲を作り、大学に一番近い千葉の町でライブをするようになりました。沖縄の先輩であるROACHが、僕たちが友達だったことと、彼らが素晴らしい人たちだったという理由だけで、東京で演奏するようとても寛大に招待してくれたのが、この始まりでした。東京でのアフターパーティーで、今のバンドメンバーのTyraとKと出会ったのもその頃です。SALTYを辞めようと決めた時、Tyraが遊びで新しいバンドを始めないかと誘ってくれました。前のバンドで辛い時期を過ごした後で、精神的に傷ついて疲れ切っていましたが、音楽をするのが好きだったので、イエスと答えました。それがとても癒される経験になり、真剣に取り組まないわけにはいかなくなりました。
ニューアルバムやEPの曲で作詞作曲したことはありますか？
Inger:
英語の歌詞はすべて私が書きました。日本語の歌詞もいくつか書きましたが、全部私が書いたわけではありません。日本語の歌詞のほとんどはKと私の共同作業です。私が日本語の歌詞をKに渡すと、彼はそれを修正したり、より良いものにしてくれたりします。時には私が伝えたいことを説明して、彼が歌詞を書いてくれることもあります。私たちの曲「Slow-burn」の日本語バージョンは、ほとんど彼のオリジナルです。
他の日本のバンドとコラボレーションしたことはありますか？
Inger:
「I said What I Said」はKubotyとのコラボレーションで、「Come Alive」はTAX（元C.W.C）と制作しました。それ以外では、Gungireの親友たちとコラボレーションしたいといつも話していますが、メンバー全員がとても忙しいので、どうなるかは分かりません。ぜひとも実現させたいコラボレーションがいくつかありますが、時間を見つけるのがいつも難しいのです。
ヨーロッパなど、海外でサイドプロジェクトをやっていますか？
Inger:
正直に言うと、日本以外のバンドシーンにはあまり詳しくないんです。だって、日本に長く住んでいるから。日本の外国人が率いるバンドのシーンにはあまり詳しくないのですが、才能ある人たちをたくさん知っていて、いつもコラボレーションについて話しています。いつかそうなるかもしれない！
The Number Zero バンドのテーマは何ですか?音楽スタイルは？
Inger:
私たちのナンバーゼロの唯一のテーマは、素晴らしいショーをして楽しい時間を過ごすことです。僕らはやりたい音楽を何でもやるから、メタルのときもあれば、パンクのときもある。みんな色々なものが好きですが、Tyra、K、そして私はニューメタル（日本語でミクスチャー）にルーツがあります。さらに私は北欧のアンダーグラウンドパンクにも精通していますし、Reijiは80年代メタル（日本人ならハードロックと呼ぶでしょう）にルーツがあります。
バンドのメンバーは？
Inger:
バンドメンバーは、Conception ComplexとSamegani出身のギターTyra、エレクトロニック・シンセ全般、バックボーカル、そしてスクリームボーカルを担当するK、元DustboxとFake Islandに所属していたドラムReiji、そしてApes From NineとSunlit RainのKoujiを中心に、クールなメンバーが揃っています。
最新アルバム「HEARTBREAK DLC」はどんな感じですか？レビューはどうですか？
Inger:
正直に言うと、レビューはまだ読んでいませんが、周りの人からのフィードバックは肯定的なものでした。とてもバラエティ豊かなアルバムで、「Slow-burn」のようなエモーショナルなバラードから、「Remedy」や「Undefeat」のようなパーティーメタル、そして「I Said What I Said」のような歌いやすい曲まで、あらゆる曲が収録されています。

お気に入りの曲はありますか？
Inger:
個人的に好きな曲はミニアルバムの「Reverse Magic」とHeartbreak DLCの「Remedy」です。
最近何か公演はありましたか?
Inger:
僕たちはライブ演奏で生きているので、いつもショーを行っています。9月は沖縄、10月は宇都宮と高崎に行きました。今年の残りと来年もライブを予定しているので、会いに来たい方はぜひスケジュールをチェックしてください！
新しいビデオを制作中ですか?
Inger:
最近はミュージックビデオを作る時間もお金もなかったのですが、来年は新しいものを計画しています。それ以外にも、私たちのソーシャル メディアにはライブ ビデオや面白いコンテンツが多数投稿されています。
ファンに何かニュースはありますか？
Inger:
ファンの皆さん、応援してくれて本当にありがとう。情熱的な大人でいっぱいのバンドだと、支持を得るのは簡単ではありません。なぜか、子供の頃よりも大人になったほうが支持を得やすいと人々は考えているようです。それは本当に違います！むしろ、それはより困難です。私たちはレーベルなどに支えられておらず、みんなそれに関して悪い経験があり、自分たちの好きなことをする自由を持ちたいと思っているので、本当に感謝しています。僕たちは現在、新しい音楽に取り組んでいますが、自然な形でできる限り最高のものにするために時間をかけていきたいので、無理はしていません。

Formed in Tokyo in 2018 by frontwoman Inger (ex-SALTY DOG), guitarist Tyra (Conception Complex), and manipulator K. With support bassist Daiki (MeloiksigN) and support drummers Ui (DRIVE FAR), Mark (NEW BREED), and Reo Yamazaki (Dogma), the band began performing primarily in Tokyo.

How are you?
Inger:
Hello. I'm better, thank you.
Tell us a little about yourself! Hobbies?
Inger:
I have way too many hobbies, but my main ones outside of music is art. Before I came to Japan I was planning to be a comic artist, but I got too busy with music, but now I'm back at it. I also love movies, video games and comics. I must admit I'm a hopeless fujoshi and nerd.
What's your musical background?
Inger:
I have always loved and been inspired by music. My father is a big music fan and I think I got the gene from him, but like him I also don't have any formal education in music. I started a band in high school in Norway, and started taking vocal lessons. Then when I came to Japan for university I started the band SALTY DOG.
What influences do you have within Metal?
Inger:
I love heavy sound, but I also love a catchy melody. Vocally I'm very inspired by Coldrain and Falloutboy, and of course Chester Bennington and Maria Brink. But because my voice quality is very pop, I take a lot of influence from people outside of rock, like Lady Gaga. I would love to learn scream vocals one day, but as of now I don't scream or do any kind of gimmick really, just try to sing in a way that feels good and comes naturally to me. I also love electronic sounds, like Electric Callboy and Las Vegas, and I try to influence my band to go that direction whenever I can!
Do you have other musical tastes? Which ones?
Inger:
My most favorite bands of all time are Linkin Park and System of a Down, and it's really shaped me in a lot of ways. Nu-metal is generally not well respected (especially in a world where black metal is the rule), so along with inspiring me it's also given me a thick skin and strong attitude towards liking what I like and not take genres too seriously.
That's why I'm not ashamed to admit that I love a good catchy pop song and I'll listen to most things as long as it gives me good feelings. Some of my recent tops are Britney Spears, Kesha, Hadouken!, Marina and the Dimonds, Rina Sawayama and the Hypnosis Microphone soundtrack. I'm also a big fan of old-school Eurobeat.
What led you to sing in a super band in Japan?
Inger:
It's kind of a long story actually, but tldr SALTY DOG was first started as a band for our school festival Josai International University. I had been to karaoke with the bassplayer and he liked my singing. We had so much fun playing the school festival that we started making our own songs and playing shows in Chiba, the closest town to our universities. We were bery generously invited to play in Tokyo by ROACH, our sempais from Okinawa, just because we were friends and they're incredible people,and that's how it started. That's also how I met my current band members Tyra and K, at afterparties in Tokyo. When I decided to quit SALTY, Tyra asked me if I wanted to start a new band just for fun. I was mentally scarred and exhausted after a tough time with my former band, but I loved doing music and I said yes and it turned out to be a very healing experience, and it was impossible not to get serious about it.
Have you written lyrics for any of the songs on the new album or EP?
Inger:
All of the English lyrics are written by me, and some of the Japanese ones too, but I really can't take all the credit. Most of the Japanese lyrics are a collaboration between K and me, I will give him my Japanese lyrics and he will correct them or make them better, sometimes I will explain what I want to say and he'll write lyrics. The Japanese version of our song "Slow-burn" is mostly his original.
Any collaborations with other Japanese bands?
Inger:
"I said What I Said" is a collaboration with Kuboty, and we did a song called "Come Alive" with TAX (formerly of C.W.C). Except for that we're always talking about doing collabs with our besties in Gungire, but we are all very busy, so we'll have to see. I have a number of collabotions I would love to get off the ground, but it's always hard to find the time.
Do you have other side projects elsewhere, for example, Europe
Inger:
I'm honestly not very familiar with band scenes anywhere but Japan, because I have been here a very long time. Even the scene of foreigner-led bands in Japan I'm not really that familiar with, although I do know a bunch of talented people there , and we're always talking about collaborations. Maybe one day!
Tell us what the theme of The Number Zero band is? Musical style?
Inger:
Our only theme in The Number Zero is to do a great show and have a good time. We do whatever kind of music we want, so sometimes it's metal, sometimes it's more punk. We all like variety of things, Tyra, K and me have our roots in Nu-Metal (Mixture in Japanese), in addition I'm well versed in Scandinavian underground punk, and Reiji has his roots in 80's metal (Japanese people would call it hard rock).
Who are the band members?
Inger:
The band members are Tyra on guitar, from Conception Complex and Samegani. K on everything electronic, backing vocals and also scream vocals. Reiji on drums, formerly of Dustbox and Fake Island. As for bass we have a collection of cool people who play with us, mainly Kouji from Apes From Nine and Sunlit Rain.
What's the current album HEARTBREAK DLC like? How have the reviews been?
Inger:
I haven't read any reviews, to be honest, but the feedback from people around me have been positive. It's a very varied album and it's got everything from emotional ballads like "Slow-burn" to party metal songs like "Remedy" and "Undefeat",and also song-along songs like "I Said What I Said".
I can only recommend listening to it!
Any favorite songs?
Inger:
My personal favorite songs are "Reverse Magic" from our mini-album, and "Remedy" from Heartbreak DLC.
Any performances in recent months?
Inger:
We are always having shows, because we just live playing live! In September we went to Okinawa and in October we were in Utsunomiya and Takasaki, we have shows planned for the rest of the year and also next year, so if anyone wants to come see us, please check out our schedule!
Any new videos you're working on?
Inger:
We have not had the time or money for music videos lately, but we are planning for a new one next year. Except for that we have a bunch of live videos and also a bunch of silly things on our social media!
Do you have any news for your fans?
Inger:
To our fans I would like to thank you for your support. It's not easy to get support when you're a band full of passionate adults, because for some reason people seem to think it's easier to do this when you're an adult than when you're a kid. It's really not! If anything it's harder, and we're not backed by a label or anything, as we all have bad experiences with that and want to have a the freedom to do what we love, so we really appreciate it! We are working on new music at the moment, but we want to take our time to make it the best we can in a natural way, so we're not pushing it.
What would you like to say to someone who hasn't heardThe Number Zero band so they can give it a listen?
Inger:
I would of course recommend giving us a listen! we're a very varied band, so chances are great that you'll find something you like! Also, I definitely recommend coming to our live shows, as we're first and foremost a live band and we make a really fun show! ¡Cuéntanos algo sobre ti! ¿Aficiones?
Inger:
Tengo muchísimas aficiones, pero aparte de la música, mi principal afición es el arte. Antes de venir a Japón, quería ser dibujante de cómics, pero me absorbí demasiado en la música, aunque ahora he vuelto a ello. También me encantan las películas, los videojuegos y los cómics. Debo admitir que soy una fujoshi y una friki empedernida.
¿Cuál es tu formación musical?
Inger:
Siempre me ha apasionado la música y me ha inspirado. Mi padre es un gran aficionado y creo que heredé su pasión, pero al igual que él, no tengo formación musical formal. Empecé una banda en el instituto en Noruega y comencé a tomar clases de canto. Luego, cuando vine a Japón para la universidad, formé la banda SALTY DOG.
¿Qué influencias tienes dentro del metal?
Inger:
Me encanta el sonido potente, pero también me encantan las melodías pegadizas. Vocalmente, me inspiran mucho Coldrain y Fallout Boy, y por supuesto Chester Bennington y Maria Brink. Pero como mi voz es muy pop, me inspiran muchos artistas fuera del rock, como Lady Gaga. Me encantaría aprender a cantar con guturales algún día, pero por ahora no grito ni hago ningún truco, simplemente intento cantar de una forma que me resulte cómoda y natural. ¿Tienes otros gustos musicales? ¿Cuáles?
Inger:
Mis bandas favoritas de todos los tiempos son Linkin Park y System of a Down, y me han influenciado muchísimo. ¿Qué te llevó a cantar en una super banda en Japón?
Inger:
Es una historia un poco larga, pero, en resumen, SALTY DOG empezó como una banda para el festival de nuestra universidad, la Universidad Internacional Josai. Había ido a un karaoke con el bajista y le gustó cómo cantaba. Nos divertimos tanto tocando en el festival que empezamos a componer nuestras propias canciones y a dar conciertos en Chiba, la ciudad más cercana a nuestras universidades. ROACH, nuestros sempais de Okinawa, nos invitaron muy amablemente a tocar en Tokio, simplemente porque éramos amigos y son gente increíble, y así empezó todo. También fue así como conocí a mis actuales compañeros de banda, Tyra y K, en fiestas después de conciertos en Tokio. Cuando decidí dejar SALTY, Tyra me preguntó si quería empezar una nueva banda por diversión. Estaba mentalmente agotada y traumatizada después de una época difícil con mi anterior banda, pero me encantaba la música, así que dije que sí y resultó ser una experiencia muy sanadora; era imposible no tomármelo en serio.
¿Has escrito la letra de alguna de las canciones del nuevo álbum o EP?
Inger:
Todas las letras en inglés las escribí yo, y algunas de las japonesas también, pero no puedo atribuirme todo el mérito. La mayoría de las letras en japonés son una colaboración entre K y yo; yo le doy mis letras en japonés y él las corrige o las mejora, a veces le explico lo que quiero decir y él escribe la letra. La versión japonesa de nuestra canción "Slow-burn" es casi toda suya.
¿Alguna colaboración con otras bandas japonesas?
Inger:
"I Said What I Said" es una colaboración con Kuboty, e hicimos una canción llamada "Come Alive" con TAX (ex miembros de C.W.C). Además, siempre estamos hablando de colaborar con nuestros amigos de Gungire, pero estamos todos muy ocupados, así que ya veremos. Tengo varias colaboraciones que me encantaría concretar, pero siempre es difícil encontrar el tiempo.
¿Tienes otros proyectos paralelos en otros lugares, por ejemplo, en Europa?
Inger:
La verdad es que no conozco mucho la escena musical fuera de Japón, porque llevo aquí mucho tiempo. Incluso la escena de bandas lideradas por extranjeros en Japón no la conozco muy bien, aunque sí conozco a mucha gente con talento allí, y siempre hablamos de colaboraciones. ¡Quizás algún día!
¿Cuál es la temática de la banda The Number Zero? ¿Y su estilo musical?
Inger:
Nuestra única temática en The Number Zero es dar un gran espectáculo y pasarlo bien. Tocamos la música que nos apetece, así que a veces es metal, a veces es más punk. Nos gusta la variedad. Tyra, K y yo venimos del nu-metal (o "mezcla" en japonés), además conozco bien el punk underground escandinavo, y Reiji viene del metal de los 80 (lo que en Japón se conoce como hard rock).
¿Quiénes son los miembros de la banda?
Inger:
Los miembros de la banda son Tyra en la guitarra, de Conception Complex y Samegani. K se encarga de la electrónica, los coros y también hace los guturales. Reiji en la batería, ex miembro de Dustbox y Fake Island. Para el bajo contamos con un grupo de músicos geniales que tocan con nosotros, principalmente Kouji de Apes From Nine y Sunlit Rain.
¿Qué tal está el álbum HEARTBREAK DLC? ¿Qué tal han sido las críticas?
Inger:
Para ser sincera, no he leído ninguna crítica, pero la gente que me rodea me ha hablado muy bien. Es un álbum muy variado y tiene de todo: desde baladas emotivas como "Slow-burn" hasta temas de metal para la fiesta como "Remedy" y "Undefeat", pasando por canciones para cantar a todo pulmón como "I Said What I Said".
¡Lo recomiendo totalmente!
¿Alguna canción favorita?
Inger:
Mis canciones favoritas son "Reverse Magic" de nuestro mini álbum y "Remedy" del DLC Heartbreak.
¿Alguna actuación en los últimos meses?
Inger:
¡Siempre estamos dando conciertos, porque lo que más nos gusta es tocar en directo! En septiembre fuimos a Okinawa y en octubre estuvimos en Utsunomiya y Takasaki. ¿Están trabajando en algún video nuevo?
Inger:
Últimamente no hemos tenido ni el tiempo ni el dinero para videos musicales, pero estamos planeando uno nuevo para el año que viene. Además de eso, tenemos un montón de videos en vivo y también un montón de cosas divertidas en nuestras redes sociales.
¿Tenéis alguna noticia para nuestros fans?
Inger:
A nuestros fans, quiero agradeceros nuestro apoyo. No es fácil conseguir apoyo cuando eres una banda formada por adultos apasionados, porque por alguna razón la gente parece pensar que es más fácil hacerlo de adulto que de niño. ¡Para nada! Al contrario, es más difícil, y no tenemos el respaldo de ninguna discográfica, ya que todos hemos tenido malas experiencias con eso y queremos tener la libertad de hacer lo que nos gusta, ¡así que lo apreciamos muchísimo! Estamos trabajando en nueva música ahora mismo, pero queremos tomarnos nuestro tiempo para que sea lo mejor posible de forma natural, así que no tenemos prisa.
¿Qué le dirías a alguien que aún no conoce a The Number Zero para que se anime a escucharnos?
Inger:
¡Por supuesto que les recomiendo que nos escuchen! Somos una banda muy variada, así que seguro que encuentran algo que les guste. Además, les recomiendo muchísimo que vengan a nuestros conciertos, ya que ante todo somos una banda de directo y ¡damos un espectáculo muy divertido!
