Hello there! We’re fine, thanks! We’ve been very busy with recordings.
Tell us who are you all?
Splendidula:
The band consists of Kristien (vocalist), Joachim (drummer and partner of Kristien), Guy (guitarist), Stitch (guitarist) & Bart (bassist).
What is the story behind the name Splendidula band? What does the name of the band mean?
Splendidula:
The band name is derived from Lamprohiza splendidula, the Latin name for firefly. With our music we want to represent the mysterious and peaceful feeling that these insects express when they fly around trees or float over water at night.
Black Metal and Doom Metal, what kind of style do you have, clasic or?
Splendidula:
Our style sits at the crossroads of Atmospheric Black Metal and Doom Metal. We blend the raw intensity of Black Metal with the deep, immersive atmosphere of Doom. While classic influences are certainly present, our focus is on crafting a layered, emotional experience. The combination of icy screams, ethereal synths, and heavy instrumentation builds an atmosphere that is both intense and hypnotic. Our music is all about emotion and immersion, drawing the listener into the darkness we create.
What are your musical influences within Black Metal?
Splendidula:
Bands like Rotting Christ, Wiegedood, Austere, Hecate Enthroned, Urfaust etc.
For Kristien Cools! Tell us about your love for Black Metal? Any other musical style?
Kristien:
When it comes to metal, I’ve always been drawn to Atmospheric Black Metal. There’s something about the darkness and atmosphere that truly moves me. It’s more than just music, it’s an emotional experience. Outside of metal, my 'feel-good' music is New Wave and EBM, as I love the melancholic yet danceable energy these styles bring. I listen to many genres, what truly matters is that the music evokes emotion.
Tell us about the current single Behind My Semblance, what is the theme of the single?
Splendidula:
The lyrics of "Behind My Semblance" were born from deeply personal experiences we've endured over the past few years, including several painful losses. Often, when people ask, "Are you okay?", there's a strong urge to be truthful and say, "No." But when you’re asked that question repeatedly throughout the day, it somehow becomes easier to respond with a simple "Yes." There's also an unspoken expectation that "yes" should be the answer; otherwise, you risk creating awkward silences or opening up a conversation you may not be ready to have.
The song reflects that while someone might appear happy on the outside, their inner struggles often remain hidden. A smile doesn’t necessarily mean someone is genuinely happy, it might just be a fleeting moment where they’re trying to forget their burdens. But once that moment fades, they might be pulled back into darkness, a reality we rarely see.
Wearing a mask, in that sense, can make it easier to shield oneself from constant reminders of personal demons. This theme of concealing emotions evolved organically as we reflected on the emotional weight many carry while showing a different face to the world.
Do you have a new album ready?
Splendidula:
We’ve just finished the recordings and sent them to Much Luv Studio. Now, we’re eagerly awaiting the final result, but we’re confident that he will make the absolute best of it.
Do you have dates for any presentation in your country?
Splendidula:
We will already be performing some of our new songs live at our show in Antwerp and at Alcatraz, Belgium’s second-largest metal festival. As for the actual album release show, we’ll have to wait a bit longer until we have more certainty about the album’s release date.
Any preview you want to share with us friends?
Splendidula:
Our upcoming new album, Absentia, is a deeply personal journey through themes of loss and remembrance. It features special guest vocals which share a meaningful connection with Sven, our dear friend who passed away a few years ago. Sven was a passionate music lover, and we wanted to honor his memory with this tribute. The album is also dedicated to our late bassist Peter, whose presence and artistry remain an integral part of our story. On a more personal level, it also holds a special place in our hearts for Gimli, our beloved cat, who was always by our side during the creative process but is no longer with us.

¡Hola! ¡Estamos bien, gracias! Hemos estado muy ocupados con las grabaciones.
¿Quiénes son?
Splendidula:
La banda está formada por Kristien (vocalista), Joachim (baterista y compañero de Kristien), Guy (guitarrista), Stitch (guitarrista) y Bart (bajista).
¿Cuál es la historia detrás del nombre de la banda Splendidula? ¿Qué significa el nombre de la banda?
Splendidula:
El nombre de la banda deriva de Lamprohiza splendidula, el nombre en latín para luciérnaga. Con nuestra música, queremos representar la sensación misteriosa y pacífica que estos insectos expresan al volar alrededor de los árboles o flotar sobre el agua por la noche.
Black Metal y Doom Metal, ¿qué estilo tienen, clásico o...?
Splendidula:
Nuestro estilo se encuentra en la intersección del Black Metal Atmosférico y el Doom Metal. Combinamos la intensidad cruda del Black Metal con la atmósfera profunda e inmersiva del Doom. Si bien las influencias clásicas están presentes, nos enfocamos en crear una experiencia emocional compleja. La combinación de gritos gélidos, sintetizadores etéreos e instrumentación potente crea una atmósfera intensa e hipnótica. Nuestra música se centra en la emoción y la inmersión, sumergiendo al oyente en la oscuridad que creamos.
¿Cuáles son tus influencias musicales dentro del Black Metal?
Splendidula:

¡Para Kristien Cools! Cuéntanos sobre tu pasión por el Black Metal. ¿Algún otro estilo musical?
Kristien:
En cuanto al metal, siempre me he sentido atraído por el Black Metal Atmosférico. Hay algo en la oscuridad y la atmósfera que realmente me conmueve. Es más que solo música, es una experiencia emocional. Fuera del metal, mi música para sentirme bien es la New Wave y el EBM, ya que me encanta la energía melancólica y a la vez bailable que estos estilos transmiten. Escucho muchos géneros; lo que realmente importa es que la música evoque emociones.
Cuéntanos sobre el sencillo actual, Behind My Semblance. ¿Cuál es su temática?
Splendidula:
La letra de "Behind My Semblance" surgió de experiencias profundamente personales que hemos vivido en los últimos años, incluyendo varias pérdidas dolorosas. A menudo, cuando la gente pregunta "¿Estás bien?", surge una fuerte necesidad de ser sincero y decir "No". Pero cuando te hacen esa pregunta repetidamente a lo largo del día, de alguna manera se vuelve más fácil responder con un simple "Sí". También existe la expectativa tácita de que "sí" debería ser la respuesta; de lo contrario, te arriesgas a crear silencios incómodos o a iniciar una conversación para la que quizás no estés listo.
La canción refleja que, aunque alguien pueda parecer feliz por fuera, sus luchas internas a menudo permanecen ocultas. Una sonrisa no significa necesariamente que alguien sea genuinamente feliz; puede ser solo un momento fugaz en el que intenta olvidar sus cargas. Pero una vez que ese momento se desvanece, puede verse arrastrado de nuevo a la oscuridad, una realidad que rara vez vemos. Usar una máscara, en ese sentido, puede facilitar la protección contra los constantes recordatorios de nuestros demonios personales. Este tema de ocultar las emociones surgió de forma natural al reflexionar sobre el peso emocional que muchos cargan al mostrar una cara diferente al mundo.
¿Tienes un nuevo álbum listo?
Splendidula:
Acabamos de terminar las grabaciones y las enviamos a Much Luv Studio. Ahora, esperamos con ansias el resultado final, pero confiamos en que le sacará el máximo provecho.
¿Tienen fechas para alguna presentación en su país?
Splendidula:
Ya estaremos interpretando algunas de nuestras nuevas canciones en vivo en nuestro concierto en Amberes y en Alcatraz, el segundo festival de metal más grande de Bélgica. En cuanto al concierto de lanzamiento del álbum, tendremos que esperar un poco más hasta tener más certeza sobre la fecha de lanzamiento.
¿Algún adelanto que quieran compartir con nosotros, amigos?
Splendidula:
Nuestro próximo álbum, Absentia, es un viaje profundamente personal a través de temas de pérdida y recuerdo. Cuenta con voces invitadas especiales que comparten una conexión significativa con Sven, nuestro querido amigo que falleció hace unos años. Sven era un apasionado de la música, y queríamos honrar su memoria con este homenaje. El álbum también está dedicado a nuestro difunto bajista Peter, cuya presencia y arte siguen siendo parte integral de nuestra historia. A nivel más personal, también tiene un lugar especial en nuestros corazones para Gimli, nuestro querido gato, que siempre estuvo a nuestro lado durante el proceso creativo, pero que ya no está con nosotros.
